The Club has held three bottle drives so far during the pandemic, since we have had to cancel most of our other fundraisers. Club members volunteer to work in shifts – unloading boxes and other containers of empties from cars as they drive through the site. Other volunteers load the boxes of bottles and bags of cans into trailers loaned to us by generous friends of Rotary. All volunteers are masked and practice social distancing. Those donating empties are able to stay in their cars.
The first one, held in July and located on the north part of the Canadian Tire parking lot (thank you Pat Higgins!), was a huge success, bringing in bottles and cans from the previous four months of Uxbridge residents staying at home. The second one, also in the CTC parking lot and held in September, was another success – especially after a very hot summer! Our most recent bottle drive was held in March, after a very long winter and another lockdown or two. Thanks to Zehrs Uxbridge for the use of part of their parking area. We have tentative plans for another bottle drive in the Fall.
