Environmental Stewardship in Action

 

The Rotary Club of Uxbridge Environmental Action Subcommittee is focused on its mandate “to promote tangible environmental actions by Rotary”. To that end we participate in several initiatives:

 

  • In spring we collect trash as part of the wider international Great Lakes Watershed Cleanup. 

     

  • Our Wing and Pizza Night sees virtually all the leftovers being returned (alcohol containers), recycled (beverage cups, soft dink containers, pizza boxes) or composted (pizza crusts and chicken bones, plates, napkins). 

     

  • October 2026 will see the planting of our fourth mini-forest, (this one in honour of former president Steve Snoddon) all of which have been supported enthusiastically by the community. 

     

  • We have just initiated Zero-Waste at our breakfast meetings by either composting or recycling all the materials we use there. That’s eliminated 12-13 big bags of garbage per year. 

     

  • We have a regular Environmental Moment during meetings that allows members to share ideas, stories and videos of environmental projects found locally and around the world. 

     

  • We partner with the Township of Uxbridge Trails Committee each year to conduct invasive species removals in nearby parks. The tools we purchased and donated to the Trails Committee are available on loan for local residents to use to keep their properties clean too. 

     

  • Finally, we will be taking seasonal walks here in the official Trail Capital of Canada to enjoy and appreciate our wonderful and scenic local environment.
