Youth and Vocational Committee
The Youth and Vocational Committee aims to support programs and opportunities for youth in the community.
The Rotary Club of Uxbridge Youth and Vocational Committee provides opportunities to youth in our community through its continued support of existing programs and scholarships, as well as occasionally supporting carefully curated one-time benefits to deserving youth or one in need. The committee also assists with funding for vocational costs for individuals on a assessed / needed basis.
Uxbridge Youth Centre
The Uxbridge Youth Centre (UYC) offers a variety of programs to youth between the ages of 11 and up. The dedicated space, in the Uxbridge Seniors Centre, is a community hub for students needing a safe, comfortable, social space that is both positive and inclusive. The UYC offers volunteer opportunities to students in need of fulfilling their high school volunteer hours. Rotary is a proud supporter of the Uxbridge Youth Centre and the much-needed programs they provide to our community.
Canadian Tire Jumpstart
The Rotary Club of Uxbridge has been an annual supporter of our local Canadian Tire Jumpstart program since its inception. The Jumpstart program provides funding for local youth to participate in sports and other activities within the community that they would otherwise not be able to afford.

Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA)
Each year, we fund the cost of sending a student with emerging leadership qualities to a one-week program at the YMCA Cedar Glen Outdoor Centre in Schomberg. During their time there, under the tutelage of Rotarians and educators, the RYLA students learn to identify their strengths and abilities and take steps to enhance their leadership qualities.
Adventure in Citizenship
Leadership comes in many forms. Students of today will be the leaders of tomorrow. Each year, an interested Grade 11 student within the community is identified and given the opportunity to go to Ottawa to experience – first-hand – the workings of our federal government and to learn how our legislature functions.
Partners in Service
Partners in service represents the coordination of the Rotary Club of Uxbridge with other area Rotary Clubs and service groups, to assist in the purchase of items pertaining to the medical, physical, vocational or independent living needs of vetted individuals in Durham region. All of the partnering service groups share the cost of items. These items include, but are not limited to lifts, wheel chairs, hospital beds, helmets, etc. By joining forces with likeminded community organizations, disabled youth may receive medical assistance that would otherwise be cost prohibitive to a single organization.
Literacy Programs
In 2009, Uxbridge Rotary implemented a community-based literacy program by purchasing interactive software for Computer Aided Learning Systems (CALS). This library-based self-directed program helps motivated students to raise their reading levels in a fun and interactive manner before entering high school. The club also supports The Free Reading Program, which provides parents with Literacy resources necessary for e-learning.
Precious Minds
For 20 years, Precious Minds has been supporting children, youth, and adults with developmental challenges. Through carefully crafted programming, these individuals are encouraged to reach their potential. Programs help participants develop skills for life, and offer families some support as they navigate the unique challenges facing their loved ones. Uxbridge Rotary members are ongoing supporters of Precious Minds. Our contributions serve to maintain and grow Precious Minds’ library resources for both participants and their caregivers.
Uxbridge Secondary School Commencement Awards
The Rotary Club of Uxbridge Service Above Self award is bestowed upon a deserving Uxbridge Secondary School during Commencement. The $1000 award is given to a student who has shown considerable involvement in many activities in and around the community.
